The 2025 Urban Coast Ultra will take place on  Monday 21st April 2025

Enjoy an ultra marathon challenge along the contours of the beautiful Western Australia sunset coast.  Soak up hours of rolling coastal paths and stunning coastal views.

General Race Information

Course Format

  • Urban Coast Ultra 64km  - Mullaloo (Start) - City Beach - Mullaloo - Mindarie - Mullaloo (Finish)

  • Urban Coast Ultra 64km Teams - for Teams of 2 or 3 athletes

    • Leg 1   (18.5km)   Mullaloo (Start) - City Beach

    • Leg 2   (18.5km)   City Beach - Mullaloo

    • Leg 3  (27km)   Mullaloo- Mindarie - Mullaloo (Finish)

  • Urban Coast Roller 27km (Leg 3) - individual athletes

 

Course Terrain 

Note: - The run legs are all along the coastal path (bitumen/concrete).  Competitors must run in shoes and have their upper torso covered.   As the course navigates the urban coastal strip it includes deviations and crossing to shared path and parking entrances as well as a few road crossings.   Given the extend of the course athletes are responsible to safely navigate these points and normal Western Australia road traffic rules apply.  This means:

  • cars have right of way

  • keep left on all shared paths

 

Registration Pickup

Registration pickup (bib numbers,) will be available only on race day only at the following times:

  • Monday 21st April 2025 - From 5:30am to 7:30am on race day at the Start/Finish area Tom Simpson Park, Mullaloo

Please ensure you have registered and collected your Bib number within the times indicated above.   Race Bib numbers must be visible from the front at all times during the event.

Also ensure that on race morning before the start that your 'Left' Calf is marked with the letters 'UCU'  This will be available during registration on race morning.

Bag Drop

A bag drop area is available on race day and will be located in the recovery area at the finish.   Please note that is not controlled so competitors leave their bag at their own risk., however race staff will be in close proximity during the event.

Race Briefing

Race briefings will be held 10 minutes prior to the start at the starting area.

Please ensure to familiarise yourself with the course layout, turn points and relay handover points.

Presentations

All presentations will take place at at the finish area at approximately: 

  • 10:00am -  27km - individual athletes

  • 11:30am -  64km  - individuals and Teams

Note:  The presentations times are subject to change and will start earlier if ahead of schedule. 
 

Race Divisions/Age Group

  • All participants must be 18Yrs or over - strictly with no exceptions.

  • Age is calculated as at event date

Prizes

Medals to all finishers and  Place awards will be awarded to:

  • 64km Teams - 1st Team of 2  (place medals)

  • 64km Teams - 1st Team of 3 (place medals)

  • 64km Individual - 1st Male and Female. (Trophy)

  • 27km Individual - 1st Male and Female. (Trophy)

Race Rules & Guidelines

The following race rules and guidelines apply to this event:

  • Participants must be 18Yrs or over on the day of the event.

  • There will be mandatory checkpoints in place on the run route, failure to observe these will risk disqualification.

  • Competitors must run in shoes and have their upper torso covered at all times.

  • Race Bib numbers must be visible from the front at all times during the event.

  • Also ensure that on race morning before the start that your 'Left' Calf is marked with the letters 'UCU'  Marking will be available during registration on race morning.

  •  As the course navigates the urban coastal strip it includes deviations and crossing to shared path and parking entrances as well as a few road crossings.   Given the extend of the course athletes are responsible to safely navigate these points and normal Western Australia road traffic rules apply.  This means that cars have right of way and participants should only cross when safe to do so.

  • Participants must keep left on all shared paths and be observant of the movement of other public on the path and be courteous at all times.

  • x1 Single support person on a bicycle is permitted per participant and can assist with run navigation, safety and nutrition needs. The support bicycle may not ride in front of the participant to provide a draft advantage. If this is observed it will be considered an infringement of race rules and penalties will apply.

  • For 64km solo participants, a single support co-runner is permitted for the 3rd Leg of the run only.  This is for the Northern loop of the run being Mullaloo-Mindarie-Mullaloo (Finish).  This is from approximately the 37km mark to the finish.  The support runner may not run in front of the participant and is responsible for their own hydration needs.  

  • The 64km solo participants  are permitted to cross the finish line with their support team (to a max of x3 including the participant).

  • The 64km Team participants  are permitted to cross the finish line with their team members (to a max of x3 participant team members).

Hydration & Aid Stations

  • Checkpoints will have additional nutrition options available but apart from these, athletes will need to be self-sufficient.

  • Participants must carry some personal hydration and nutrition needs to be self sufficient between official aid stations.  This can be in the form of a hydration vest, belt of hand held bottles.

  • Participants must familiarise themselves with the course and location of the aid stations as well as additional public facilities offering water and toilet facilities along the route of which there are many to replenish supplementary hydration needs.

  • Participants must carry a mobile phone unless they have a support person on a bicycle to do this.

  • Three official check points/aid Stations will be available at:

    • City Beach - at the end of Leg 1 (18.5km)  - water & PURE - Premium Electrolyte Hydration Drink

    • Mullaloo  - at the end of Leg 2 (37km) - water, coke/water & PURE - Premium Electrolyte Hydration Drink

    • Mindarie - at the end of Leg 3  (50.5km / 13.5km for Urban Coast Roller)  - water & PURE - Premium Electrolyte Hydration Drin

    • x 2 PURE gels per athlete (for 64km individual participants) will be available at both the Mullaloo and Mindarie Aid Stations.

    • An additional finish aid station will be located after crossing the finish line at Mullaloo Beach.

Notes* -

  1.  Participants are reminded that this is a gruelling run leg due to the distance and the profile of the second half of the run is more challenging. Athletes should be sure to plan their training, strategy and nutrition strategies appropriately. While you are all very experienced athletes we recommend you trial your nutrition strategies as best you can before event day.

  2.  Please be aware that the coastal path stretch from Burns Beach foreshore to Mindarie is approximately 5km in length and has no additional public water facilities.

Event and public Parking

 

Mullaloo Beach - South

Parking is available opposite the Dome and Mullaloo Surf Club.  This is on the South side of Tom Simpson Park and has in excess of 150 parking spots.   This is near the start and limited parking will be available.    As it is a popular location it is recommended to arrive early to ensure a spot and allow plenty of time for registration.

Mullaloo Beach- North

Tom Simpson Park has parking for over 300 vehicles at the venue car park.  Parking and access will be available during the race period.

 

Competitors or visitors arriving are expected to park with common sense and in accordance to the City of Joondalup’s Local Parking Laws. These include but are not limited to;

  • No Parking on/over a footpath

  • Park facing the same direction as the traffic

  • No parking on private resident’s verge or driveway (without the owners consent)

  • Not on private property without the owners consent.

It is recommended to arrive early to ensure a spot and allow plenty of time for registration.

Dunes and Walkways

Participants and supporters should take note of restrictions in regard to access to the beach via designated walkways and not enter dunes areas – please refer to and take note of the appropriate access signs.

The run legs are on the coastal shared path so please keep to your left, take care when overtaking and show respect to all other shared path users including competitors, volunteers and pedestrians.
